(1-16 of 16)- Intuitive interface.
- Easy to create channels.
- Mobile and Desktop apps let you stay connected anywhere.
- Would be nice to be able to arrange pinned posts.
- Would be great to have a NOTES section per channel for links, phone numbers, text blocks, etc.
Mattermost is a great tool for small, shifting freelance teams
- User management
- Discussion delineation (channels)
- Multi-platform support
- Easy installation and maintenance
- Notifications - buggy on iOS and macOS
- Embedded media integration - some attachments only download, or don't display/navigate well inside the app
- Integrations with email and calendar would be nice if native to the app
Instant on the messaging, runner up on the improvements
- Polls - the polls feature on mattermost seems to be perfect
- Text formatting on mattermost is great with a variety of formatting options that also includes code blocks
- Pinning and saving messages that you can come back to later on
- Search functionality needs improvement
- The mobile app needs serious work, extremely buggy and hard to use
- GIFs have been removed, would help if an alternate service could be incorporated
- Markdown format for text messaging is great.
- Easy to add status.
- Kanban boards for my teams.
- Online and Offline indicators.
- The one dislike is how I miss my notifications at times on my mobile app and also desktop app.
- Quick audio call feature I guess should be included in this project and tasks management tool to boost communication.
A communication tool that can be in your control
- self hosted
- groups (both locked and open)
- communication
- integrations with other software
- notifications sometimes glitchy
- mac os app needs improvement
The main selling point is that it can be self hosted. this way we are in control of the data.
great option for teams looking for an enterprise-grade solution
- Integration with other apps: Mattermost can be integrated with third-party applications, such as GitHub, Slack and Google Hangouts.
- Mattermost's security model is based on the OAuth protocol, which means it can authenticate users without sharing passwords. The authentication process uses TLS encryption as well as two-factor authentication (2FA). 2FA is an extra layer of protection that makes it harder for hackers who have gained access to the initial login details to get into the account, so they'll need more pieces of information before gaining access again.
- You can use it on multiple devices at once: If you have multiple team members working from different locations (e.g., remote teams), they'll be able to communicate effectively thanks to the fact that Mattermost integrates with many different platforms such as Slack and HipChat.
- You have a lot of ways to use Mattermost: You can access your team's chat room and files via web browsers, Android phones, or iOS devices (iPhone/iPad).
- I don't have any complaints about MAttermost, the system works smoothly and seamlessly.
Our Organisation has most of Collaboration Needs Satisfied using Mattermost - Team Chat, DevOps Integrations, Document Sharing
The main purpose of using it was security concerns. We wanted our data to be only to us, on-premises. So this satisfied the use case to have Mattermost self-hosted on our corporate rack. To date, we have been using it among our staff without any trouble. Mattermost has good options to backup data (store) on cloud platforms too. Also, our use cases consist of DevOps components integration which are satisfied (notifications) from our Jenkins Infrastructure. It has good simplicity of use, so I'll recommend it over other self-hosted chat solutions to anybody.
- Simplicity of use
- Integrations
- Data storage connections for backup purpose or storing media
- Really good administration of users and sake of control
- DevOps friendly across IT team
- Some of the features in paid plans could be free, however, they have much offered in free plan (self-hosted)
- The Desktop App we use on windows has some bugs, like when Mattermost is down and comes back up, the app needs restart
A security strategy pillar.
- Search messages
- Create groups
- Pin messages
- Secure communications
- Use markdown in messages
- Multi Thread management and it's UI separation. Could be with distinct colors.
- Better notifications in mobile. Sometimes new messages did not send notifications
- Better help when using markdown
- Better Archive organization
Mattermost - A helpful asset for your organization
- The system console feature to manage all users.
- Different groups can be formed easily and the privacy is amazing.
- Flexibility to post big images, attachments is really cool.
- The options we look for should be more easily available with a change in its interface.
- Group deletion is still a big task. It should be easily available to all users.
A great chat solution for startups
- On-prem deployment.
- Limited tracking/telemetry.
- Scales well, doesn't require much maintenance.
- Basic features like custom status, collapsed reply threads are JUST rolling out - kind of slow for a workplace chat app.
- I don't really get the idea of Playbooks and Boards - there are better, dedicated tools for stuff like this and it's not so easy to turn off.
Making instant connection is very easy
- I found this the smoothest app with advanced features that helps to express all feelings and knowledge properly. Its various tools and automation programs increase the collaboration with my clients.
- I use Mattermost to interact with my team members and clients without any disturbance and interference.
- It has an authentic search function that creates filtering automatically and provides amazing services.
- The login step which is an initial step takes time.
- Sometimes the video lags behind which creates discomfort.
- The brush should be easy to handle.
- HIPAA-compliant messaging.
- Notification system.
- Usability.
- Private messaging.
- Visual interface could look cleaner.
- The transition from another messaging software was not easy.
Mattermost An Integral Part of our Communication
- Allows individual channels for teams, departments, or projects
- Easy to use
- Really nothing I would change or add. It works well and doesn't give us any issues.
Communicate faster and better with your employees!
- It's open-source! So our devs could adequate the tool to our necessities.
- It works particularly well in every navigator.
- It also works well in mobile phones, even when you choose not to install the mobile app (this is a BIG plus).
- Notifications sometimes get lost if you have a lot of channels active.
- It has a limitation of quantity of private channels that could be improved.
- The interface is not very stylish.
Decent overall solution for security-focused organizations
- Slack compatibility for Webhooks.
- Emoji reactions.
- Custom emojis.
- Security.
- Mobile performance is abysmal.
- Desktop app doesn't auto update.
- Archaic license management/license count optimization.
- Release stability is unreliable.
An open-source alternative to Slack that provides you complete flexibility over your team communication
- Self hosted with capability to store and search for conversations from day one
- Capability to create multiple projects with different set of users for each project
- Capability to seamlessly plug into 3rd party applications just like Slack
- Self hosting also means self management, and hence requires at least one person with technical know-how to manage the product
- Major upgrades to the product can be challenging and are required to be done from the backend
- While Mattermost is open-source and free, hosting Mattermost is not, and that needs to be considered by anyone deploying this application
